GREAT FUTURE FOR AQUACULTURE
Through the Regional Strategy Fund, NZ Trade & Enterprise is investing $104,000 into aquaculture in the Eastern Bay of Plenty. The funds will be used to help establish a regional aquaculture organisation and to develop a region-wide profile of the emerging aquaculture industry and future infrastructure needs. Consent has been given to establish a 3800 ha marine farm in Opotiki Harbour, which has the potential to generate $250m through aquaculture by 2015. The initiative will have a huge impact on the economic wellbeing of the Eastern Bay of Plenty, as well as the wider region.
