The city centre waterfront is one of Tauranga’s key civic investments which will define the city centre and stimulate investment and development. Priority One has worked closely with Tauranga City Council to develop a vibrant waterfront at minimal cost to ratepayers. This included identifying locations and opportunities for the private sector to operate commercial activities to complement the waterfront and attract further investment.
The Access to Water project confirms Tauranga City Council commitment to developing the waterfront area. It has partnered with Tauranga engineering consultants, Beca, and Auckland-based urban designers, LandLAB, on the construction of tidal stairs, Masonic Pier and a pontoon on the city’s waterfront. The Access to Water project aims to make it easier for people to access and enjoy the water and stimulate other activities in the area. Work is due to commence in mid-2016, for completion by 2016-17 summer season.
