SUMMARY:CEO Unscripted | Sam Vye CEO and Founder of SYOS Aerospace
DESCRIPTION:Priority One’s new event series\, CEO Unscripted\nIn partnership with Ryan + Alexander \nMeet the real people behind the title and get specific insights from some of the Bay of Plenty’s most high-profile CEOs. These talks will go beyond company success stories to explore the behind-the-scenes journey of leadership. \nAlong with the stories of personal achievement and success\, we’ll be asking CEOs about the setbacks\, risk taking\, turning points and lessons that don’t make it into their annual reports. \nYou’ll hear how CEOs: \n\nMake difficult decisions with imperfect information\n\n\nHandle failure\, pressure and doubt\n\n\nHave tough conversations and lead in a crisis\n\n\nGrow personally as their businesses grows\n\n\nThink about leadership\, people and culture\n\nYou’ll leave with perspective\, insights and the confidence that the challenges you’re facing are a normal part of being a leader. \n=== \nAnnouncing our first speaker in the series: Sam Vye\, CEO & Founder of SYOS Aerospace.\n4-6pm\, Thursday 12 February at Bay Oval \nCLICK HERE TO REGISTER\nSYOS Aerospace is a world-class manufacturer of land\, sea\, and air drones based in Mount Maunganui. It was named Company of the Year at the NZ Hi-Tech Awards 2025. The company has been winning lucrative global business\, including a $67m contract with the UK Ministry of Defence. \nAbout Sam: Sam Vye is a Mount Maunganui leader with a simple playbook: be straight up\, back your people and move faster than the problem. A geophysicist by training\, he’s done hard miles in engineering and venture building\, from the UK to the Bay\, Sam is known for cutting the corporate fluff and creating teams that lead from wherever they sit. \nHe believes positivity under pressure isn’t a slogan – it’s a skill. Case in point: years ago he got properly stuck in the Arctic and turned the experience into a set of principles about preparation\, calm decision-making\, and not panicking when the map runs out. (Turns out\, that works just as well on a factory floor as it does on shifting ice.) \nThese days\, you’ll find Sam toggling between the back‑of‑the‑shed chats at smoko and higher‑stakes conversations with partners offshore – exactly the leadership blend the Bay does best: jandals on\, sleeves up\, results first. Sam lives by: empower good humans\, keep the signal‑to‑noise ratio high\, and send it – together. \n  \nSam will be in conversation with Priority One’s new CEO\, Dave Courtney. \nThis event is also about bringing together our business community\, so come along to make valuable connections and enjoy stimulating conversations! \nThis is the first event in this series\, so stay tuned as we bring you more conversations with our region’s talented CEOs. \n=== \nPriority One’s CEO Unscripted series has been created in partnership with Ryan + Alexander\, a professional recruitment agency offering a world-class service from the Tauranga city centre. Focusing solely on the Bay of Plenty region\, the Ryan + Alexander team are top performers in their field\, so whether you want to find your perfect employee or your next job\, get in touch.

SUMMARY:Growing\, Going\, Gone....Anticipating Demographic Transformation
DESCRIPTION:Growing\, Going\, Gone…Anticipating Demographic Transformation\nPriority One presents Professor Paul Spoonley of Massey University\n  \nDate: Monday 8 September 2025 \nTime: 4.00pm – 6.00pm \nVenue: Priority One\, 29 Grey Street\, Tauranga \n \nNew Zealand’s demography began to change significantly in 2013. There was a pause during COVID but subsequently\, change has continued. The 2020s will see a number of tipping points being reached and then a very demography for the country – and regions – will have emerged by the 2030s. The Western Bay of Plenty is one of the “fast” areas in terms of growth and a very different age profile and cultural diversity will characterise the area – and already does so. \n  \nAbout Distinguished Professor Emeritus Paul Spoonley FRSNZ \nPriority One is pleased to host Distinguished Professor Paul Spoonley\, who was previously Pro Vice-Chancellor of the College of Humanities and Social Sciences at Massey University. Once he stepped down\, he was appointed to advise the Police Commissioner (2022-25) and then as Co-Director of the National Centre for Countering Violent Extremism (2022-23). He has led major research programmes on immigration\, diversity and inter-group relations and been extensively involved in policy development and evaluation\, both in New Zealand internationally. Paul is a Fellow of the Auckland Museum and a Board member and a Visiting Research Fellow at the Max Planck Institute for the Study of Religious and Ethnic Diversity\, Göttingen\, Germany. He was awarded the Science and Technology Medal by the Royal Society in 2009 for cross-cultural understanding and the following year\, he was a Fulbright Senior Scholar at the University of California Berkeley. He is the author or editor of 29 books\, including The New New Zealand. Facing Demographic Disruption (2021). \n \nSpaces are limited—register now. Light refreshments will be provided.

SUMMARY:Design and Innovation Meetup August 2025: Human Robot Interaction in Practice
DESCRIPTION:People and Emerging Technologies: Human-Robot Interaction in Practice \nThe August 2025 Design and Innovation Meetup promises to be a highlight of our year\, featuring Dr. Jessica Turner\, a Senior Lecturer in Au Reikura School of Computing and Mathematical Sciences and the University of Waikato. \nShe’s a Tauranga-based researcher in Human Centred Computing\, and will be talking about her (and her students) work in understanding how we can design\, prototype and evaluate robots that work alongside people. From how appearance influences perceptions to robotic campus ambassadors\, we’ll explore how humans can interact with robots in everyday contexts. \nIf you’re interested in the interface of design and engineering\, how we can build useful and likeable technologies\, and how we can build prototypes and experiments to test these things\, then this is the session for you! This will be a hand on and interactive session\, as Jessica is kindly also welcoming us into to their brand spanking new Computer Science lab\, and giving us a chance to play with some of their kit! \nThis is also a great chance to see another exciting development for our city’s innovation ecosystem\, as well as – as ever – connect with likeminded innovators from around the region. \nWhen? 430PM\, Wednesday 27 August \nWhere? Tauranga Computing Lab\, University of Waikato\, 145 Durham Street\, Tauranga 3110 \nPlease note the change of location – still city centre but at the new Computing Lab
