Bay of Plenty Regional Council’s work guides and supports the sustainable development of the Bay of Plenty. We want to make sure our region grows, prospers and develops in a way that will sustain future generations.

The focus of our work is changing - moving from a strong environmental one that focused on people's use of freshwater, land, air and coastal water, to a much broader focus where, through working with others, we consider the economic, social and cultural well-being of the regional community as well. The Regional Governance Group is an example of this where the council, working with the region’s economic development agencies, supports the group to bring a regional approach to economic development through Bay of Connections.
