Tauranga City Council is a significant funding partner of Priority One.  Through the Joint Committee of Councils, Priority One is contracted to deliver specific economic development outcomes on behalf of the sub-region’s local authorities.

Tauranga City Council is a local authority with responsibility for democratic decision-making to promote the social, economic, environmental and cultural well-being of Tauranga city.  Tauranga is one of New Zealand's fastest growing cities, nearly tripling in size in the last 25 years.  It is currently the fourth largest city outside Auckland, with an urban population of around 118,000 people, and covers 168 km².  Home to Port of Tauranga – New Zealand’s largest port - Tauranga is one of the country’s main centres for business and international trade.  Key business sectors include horticulture, marine services, food processing, niche manufacturing, business services and ICT.
