Skills for industry
INSTEP
INDUSTRY & SCHOOLS TRAINING & ENTERPRISE PARTNERSHIP
The INSTEP programme provides valuable links between businesses and local secondary schools. It gives students, teachers, parents and principals a good understanding of business and how it relates to economic growth, encouraging students to achieve their goals through understanding the relevance of what they learn at school to a work environment. It also highlights career opportunities and pathways in the sub-region’s key sectors, particularly those that currently, or are projected to, experience skill shortages. Initiatives have a strong focus on the importance of internationalisation, innovation and sustainability.
The benefits to both schools and local businesses of the INSTEP programme are significant. School communities increase their knowledge of innovative, enterprising and sustainable business practice and businesses have an input into preparing future employees by reinforcing the importance of having the right attitude and transferable skills. A key strength of the programme is its ability to be flexible in delivery to meet community needs and adjust priorities in line with changes in the economy. INSTEP is primarily a catalyst for change, to work with businesses and the community to recognise and take advantage of opportunities.
