Youth Fest 2025 was more than just a day of music and activity-it was a genuine celebration of youth voice, creativity, and leadership across Tauranga Moana. Entirely youth-led and thoughtfully designed by the team at Youth Voices Action, this year’s festival reflected what’s possible when rangatahi take the lead.
Held in the heart of the community, the event brought together live music, creative arts, engaging stalls, and hands-on activities – all shaped with young people’s input at every level. From the planning stages to performances on stage, it was a space where young people could express themselves and support one another.

Among the many contributors were Instep Young Leaders Naomi Baldo from Tauranga Girl’s College and Anna Snow, from Bethlehem College who volunteered their time to help the day run smoothly. From assisting vendors with setting up their stalls to packing down at the end, their behind-the-scenes support was a great example of rangatahi stepping up and getting involved. Another Instep Young Leader, Miranda Tran from Otumoetai College took part with her crochet stall called Snowball The Store and Daniel Moore from Aquinas College who is a part of the Beat Street Drummers performed on stage, adding to the diverse lineup of talent.
Their involvement reflects what Youth Fest is all about – rangatahi supporting rangatahi. When young people are given the chance to lead, create, and contribute, they don’t just take part, they take ownership.
A big acknowledgement goes to organisers Erika Harvey and Rebecca Kit, along with the dedicated Youth Voices Action team. Pulling together a community-wide event takes effort, and the result was a well-run, inclusive space that many will remember.

As the momentum continues, Youth Fest remains a place where young people can show up as themselves, share what they love, and be part of something bigger. Teens who are into performing, running a small business, or just showing up to support their friends had a space at Youth Fest.
And if this year’s festival was anything to go by, the future of Tauranga Moana’s youth community is in very capable hands.
