After four decades in business, family-owned print supplier Kale Print has marked the milestone with a move that sets it up for the future.

Long-time residents of Tauranga’s city centre, with finishing operations previously based in Judea, the business has brought everything together for the first time in a purpose-built facility in the Tauriko Business Estate. For General Manager Peter Lloyd, the move is about more than just space. “Tauriko made sense for where we’re heading,” he says. “It’s a growing hub for industry and logistics, and being surrounded by like-minded businesses creates real efficiencies for us and our clients. We’re closer to many customers, better connected and set up to keep evolving.”

The new 3100sqm facility has been designed around lean manufacturing principles, with careful planning of workflow across the factory floor to improve end-to-end process efficiency. “By bringing everything under one roof we can support any size organisation – from owner-operators through to large corporates and trade print supply,” says Peter. “We’ve reduced handovers, improved consistency, and created capacity to keep investing in new technology.”

Alongside operational gains, the new site reflects an enduring commitment to sustainability. Kale Print has been carbon zero for four years, and the Tauriko facility takes that a step further. With 432 solar panels installed, the site generates 106% of its energy needs, with surplus power returned to the grid during peak periods. The system reduces emissions by 42 tonnes of CO₂ annually – the equivalent of planting around 7,500 trees. “All print manufacturing for our clients is now powered by 100% renewable energy,” says Peter. “For businesses under increasing pressure to meet environmental targets, that’s a tangible benefit. It means working with us directly supports their own commitments.”

Founded in 1984 by Stephen and Jill Kale, the business remains firmly family-led, with the next generation playing key roles across operations, production and design. Kale Print is positioned alongside a growing cluster of businesses investing in the Tauriko area – a signal of confidence in both the location and the region’s future.

The move brings everything into alignment for the business: smarter operations, lower environmental impact and a base that supports continued growth. “This is about setting ourselves up for the next 40 years,” says Peter. “We’ve built something that works now – and will keep working as we grow.”
