Across two engaging evenings, 89 local students had the opportunity to gain practical insights and real-world career advice at events hosted by Holland Beckett Law (HOBEC). Organised by Christabel Namburi, People and Culture Advisor at HOBEC, these evenings offered attendees a realistic glimpse into daily life at a law firm.
Speakers Jeremy Sparrow, who specialises in employment law, and Megan Henderson, a solicitor from the litigation team, shared their own journeys and provided practical tips on how students can best approach summer clerkship opportunities.
Jeremy and Megan emphasised the importance of genuine interest and tailored applications when applying to law firms. Their key advice included clearly aligning applications to the firm’s specific practice areas and values, as well as actively demonstrating a commitment to community involvement—a cornerstone of Holland Beckett Law’s identity.

Beyond applications, both speakers highlighted that while law school provides essential foundational skills, gaining real-world experience is equally vital. They encouraged students to apply broadly, remain curious, and explore various specialties and workplace environments whenever possible.
The evenings also showcased Holland Beckett Law’s ongoing commitment to community outreach. Jeremy and Megan shared examples of how HOBEC staff regularly volunteer at local causes, including homeless shelters, and support various community initiatives through donations and service-based projects.
Students left the sessions feeling informed and encouraged, equipped with practical tips from former summer clerks and an appreciation for the real-world experiences awaiting them after graduation.
These events demonstrated HOBEC’s commitment not only to the legal profession but to nurturing the next generation of community-minded legal professionals.
